What should I do if I am a victim of SIM swap fraud in South Africa?
Act immediately: contact your bank's fraud line to freeze your accounts and dispute the unauthorised transactions, contact your network to block the fraudulent SIM and recover your number, and report the matter to the SAPS to obtain a CAS number. Your bank and network will both require a sworn affidavit setting out what happened, and you may also register with the Southern African Fraud Prevention Service (SAFPS) for protection against further identity fraud.
