SASSA often requires applicants or their spouses to submit a sworn affidavit confirming that they are unemployed and have no income, particularly for the SRD grant, child support grant, and older persons grant means tests. How do I prove I am unemployed for a school fee exemption or NSFAS application?
If you cannot produce a UIF document or letter from a former employer, an unemployment affidavit is the standard proof. In it you state under oath that you are unemployed, when and where you were last employed (if ever), how your living expenses are met, and how many dependants you support. Schools use it when assessing fee exemptions under the South African Schools Act, and NSFAS and bursary providers use it to verify household income. Making a false statement under oath is a criminal offence.
